Using Instant Tests

Instant tests give you the ability to run key performance tests at the click of a button, with instant results, rather than waiting for a scheduled time. By using the instant test, in conjunction with the Whitebox’s expanded set of scheduled tests, you can collect more precise information about your network at the time when problems occur. Moreover, because the instant test is performed within the router, you get an enhanced perspective on the performance of your network that you couldn’t get from a personal device test alone.
This feature is only available on Whitebox 8.0 models and above. It is not available on our mobile app.
The instant test’s results are affected by cross-traffic (e.g. ongoing downloads, streaming videos, or other heavy internet usage), so make sure to pause those activities first if you want the most accurate results.
Go to your account Dashboard, and find the Instant tests widget.
Click Run test to begin.
The test starts instantly and should take about 30 seconds to complete, though slower connections can take longer.
You can view the test in real time. A black bar under each test indicates the progress of the test, and once complete, the results display for that test. The test runs in order of:
Download
Upload
Latency, jitter, and packet loss.
Compare the current and previous tests by clicking More results.
All instant test results are displayed in a table. All tests are dated and time-stamped, in chronological order.
Note: Scheduled test results do not appear in the table. You can find scheduled test results in the Scheduled tests widget on your account’s dashboard.
If you’d like to share your Instant test results, we recommend you take a screenshot.
Your Whitebox must be correctly set up and online for you to run an Instant test.
If you encounter any of these errors, here’s what to do:
“Your Whitebox is offline” / “Can’t reach your Whitebox”: please make sure you have correctly set up your Whitebox.
“A test is running”: For some Whitebox models, only one test can be run at a time. If you see this message, it’s possible a scheduled test is already running or you have attempted to run another Instant test before the first one has finished. Give it a minute, then try again.
“Something went wrong, please try again later”: Please wait a minute, then try again. If you continue to experience issues, contact us.
If you’re experiencing issues using the instant test that aren’t listed here, contact community@samknows.com.
