Understanding Your Broadband Package

Broadband packages, also known as speed-tiers, are the download and upload speeds that your internet service provider (ISP) provides to your home as part of its service. These speeds can sometimes be the same or different. Upload is usually lower than download.
Knowing your broadband package details allows two things to happen:
When you’re signing up for a Whitebox, we need your ISP and package information to assess whether you qualify as a volunteer.
See Becoming a Volunteer for information on how to sign up, and when and why we need your package details.
See How Volunteers Are Selected for information about the selection process.
When your Whitebox is set up, you can then monitor your internet performance to ensure you are receiving your expected speeds. This information is key to ensure valid data in the national broadband reports we generate.
If you don’t know the speed of your package, please check your internet billing information or contact your ISP directly. Ask your ISP to break down the agreed download and upload speeds for your package.
Below are some example package names and speeds that may help you to understand your own package details. These are fictitious packages and ISPs.
GoGo Zoom (ISP) - Ultrafast Fibre (package name) – 100 x 20 (download x upload speeds, measured in Mbps)
Wakanda Internet (ISP) - W200 (package name) – 200 x 35 (download x upload speeds, in Mbps)
